| TRIP ITINERARY: Mammoth Lakes to Yosemite Valley |
DAY 1
|
Meet at Mammoth Mountain Inn at 8 am. We’ll leave our cars here for the duration and shuttle back after the hike. However, before we hike we will check over our packs and take a short bus ride to Red’s Meadow. Our first Day’s hike will take us about 5 miles to the Trinity Lakes. |
DAY 2 |
Day 2’s hike rolls along, in and out of the trees, into the alpine, along countless lakes to a camp on the shore of beautiful Garnet Lake underneath Mount Ritter and Banner Peak. 7.5 miles. |
DAY 3 |
7 miles. By Thousand Island Lake, through Island Pass to a Camp in headwaters of Rush Creek. |
DAY 4 |
After a short uphill to Donahue Pass and into Yosemite National Park, the bulk of the day will be gently downhill into deep, monolithic Lyell Canyon. 9 miles |
DAY 5 |
Day 4 of this trip probably holds one of the mellowest sections of trail in the High Sierra. We’ll hike about 6 miles before lunch, take a resupply (and ice cream!) break at Tuolumne Meadows and motor on another 4 miles to Cathedral Lakes. |
| DAY 6 |
From Cathedral Lakes, we climb to Cathedral Pass, drop down past Columbia Finger, through Sunrise High Sierra Camp, up a minor pass and down to a camp in the headwaters of Sunrise Creek. 8 miles. |
| DAY 7 |
Today’s the Peak Bagger’s Day! We’ll move camp a short ways and have opportunity to climb Cloud’s Rest and Half Dome. Not too many people get a chance to hit both these on the same day. |
| DAY 8 |
The last day, all downhill, back into civilization. We’ll plunge downhill past Little Yosemite Valley, Nevada Falls and Vernal Falls. We’ll finish the day at Curry village on the floor of spectacular Yosemite Valley. We’ll make time to have a pizza dinner and maybe score a shower before kicking back on the bus back to Mammoth and our cars. |
