PAST HEADLINES

December 15, 2008- Bishop residents woke up to 4 inches of fresh snow this morning! Que Bien!

December 14th, 2008- The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center kick-off event was a great success.  We had about 40 people attend the free clinics. Thanks to everyone who supported ESAC and don't forget to sign up for an avalanche course soon.

December 7th, 2008- We are hearing hints that there  may snow coming by next weekend.  Pray for snow!!!

November 25, 2008- Happy Thanksgiving!

November 24, 2008- Snow is coming this week!

November 23, 2008- Jed, Howie, and Annie had a fun ascent up The Bunny Ears on Wheeler Crest- keep an eye out for thier trip report!

November 12, 2008- We now are offering a avalanche refresher course for Level 2 students! Check it out!

November 5, 2008- Congratulations to Barack Obama!

November 4, 2008- Howie and Karen welcome a new rescued puppy into their home. She is a husky mix named Wheeler.

October 31, 2008- Whew! after a busy guiding season we are finally getting back on the news feed horse. The news of the day is we got a guest permit to guide on the sweet sandstone of Red Rock National Conservation Area, NV again in 2009. We had some great trips there this fall so stay tuned for dates we'll be there in Spring and Fall 2009!

October 22, 2008- Howie and Neil are on their way to Red Rock to climb for 5 days. If you feel jealous that you are not with them- there is hope! We just added another 5 day trip during thanksgiving weekend. More info on Monday!

October 13, 2008- We just finished up this falls AMGA Rock Instructor Course. It was a big success and we want to thank Adam Fox for coming all the way out here and faring the cold weather with us!

September 17, 2008- Annie and Jed are back, Howie is on Whitney, Karen is on Sill with her running crew, the weather in the eastern sierra is cooling down, and the first issue of Powder magazine is on newsstands. Wheee!!

-Also, our very own guides, Jed Porter and Annie Trujillo are getting married this Saturday!

May 7, 2008- HUGE NEWS TODAY!!! Neil Satterfield has passed his Ski Mountaineering Guide Exam and is now an internationally certified IFMGA guide!!!! Let's give a big Whoop Whoop for all his hard work in earning this prestigious title!!!

May 5, 2008- Just to let folks know, we have changed the dates for the AMGA Rock Instructor Course to June 24-July 3, 2008. Hopefully this works for some people that the other dates didn't work for!

May 1, 2008- Happy May Day everyone!

May 1 , 2008- Anyone want to go mountaineering with a couple of fun guys somewhere between June 8-18? $175 per person per day! P. S. How else were you planning on spending your tax refund?

 

March 19, 2008- Neil's twins, Laurel and Nathan are going skiing today! Two future 3rd generation IFMGA bad ass guides? Speaking of the twins, they turn 4 on Saturday. Karen Schwartz's birthday is Saturday too! Wish them well!

March 10, 2008- All the guys have successfully finished the AMGA ski guide course. They experienced 12 days of hard work, great weather and even better skiing! Great job guys!

March 2, 2008- We had a great weekend of ice climbing. Check out the updated ice conditions report.

March 3, 2008- Howie, Bela, and the Boys continue on their intensive 12 day AMGA Ski Guides Course. Today they head out on a 4 day strictly backcountry tour to really hone the skills they've been working on for the past week.

Feb. 28, 2008- Sierra Mountain Guides wish Scott Brown a very happy birthday today!

Feb.. 20, 2008- East Side Residents prepare for a storm set to begin today and end sunday. 4-5 feet of new snow is expected. Goodbye corn, hello pow.

We had a great weekend of ice and avalanche courses. If you haven't taken a course yet sign up now before winter is over.

Feb.. 14, 2008-  Happy Valentines Day!

Feb.. 13, 2008- Howie Karen return from their Canadian Hut Skiing Trip to participate once again in "the grind." They said their trip was endless freshies and face shots up the wahzoo. Que jealousy.

 

Feb 11, 2008- Bishop residents enjoy a very spring like day with temps nearly at 70 degree. We love the winter but a warm day in between can't be beat!

Feb 9-10, 2008- Annie and Jed take a group of boy scouts out winter camping who had never been before! They had awesome weather and the group did great!

Feb 7, 2008- Annie and Jed play hookie for the day to climb Mt. Abbott (13, 704 ft.) and find excellent skiing conditions but scary sugar snow in the 3rd class section. Check out their photos on Jed's MySpace (and yes, you can give him hell for having a myspace page)

February 2, 2008- The National Weather Service has issued another winter storm warning for Inyo and Mono County,"SNOW WILL BEGIN ACROSS MONO COUNTY THIS EVENING AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 18 TO 30 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ABOVE 7000 FEET WEST OF HIGHWAY 395"

January 28, 2008- 395 was closed this morning between Bishop and Reno. Looks like big snow in Mammoth this week.

January 24, 2008- Bishop and Big PIne Residents wake up to a few inches of fresh snow! Howie and Jed head out to attack the fresh pow while they leave Annie in the office wishing she were out there too! No Fair!! Come to the East Side ya'll, it's lookin' like Winter!!

Jan 17, 2008- Jed and Joe Doerr return safely and successfully from SMG's first winter Whitney Trip this year. Though cold, they reached the summit and had a dandy time, and even got to check out the cool fighter planes.

Jan 16, 2008- We are happy to announce that the SMG office is as busy as its ever been!

Jan 15, 2008- We had a very successful AIARE Level 1 course this weekend- our first this year!

Jan. 2, 2008 - HAPPY NEW YEAR! HUGE WINTER STORM SET TO HIT THE SIERRA!

December 31, 2007 - THE ICE IS NICE! LEE VINING CANYON AND HORSETAIL FALLS ARE CLIMBING GREAT. SMG's EARLY SEASON ICE COURSES ARE GOING GREAT.
